Workshops

The workshops are all suitable for beginners apart from the ‘Use Your Skills’ weekends. These are for people who have already attended one of the weekend courses and have the skills.

On a stained glass weekend my intention is that participants will learn all the skills needed and will make 2 or 3 small panels over the weekend. Participants will become independent and able to continue making at home or come back and make bigger or more complex pieces here, in the Glasshouse workshop.

I like to see people getting the confidence to tackle their bathroom window or the front door!

Stained Glass Courses

Stained glass courses will teach the copper foil method or/and the leading method.

Traditional leaded glass.

The classic church window stained glass. Participants will cut up coloured glass and fit the pieces into lead strips before soldering the joints. If you want it to be waterproof you then  putty both sides, otherwise just one side.

Tiffany or copper foil method.

The edge of each cut piece of glass is wrapped in copper foil tape and soldered together to make a panel. This technique usually has smaller seems and is good for detailed work.

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Fused Glass Courses

One approach is to layer bits of coloured glass onto a clear sheet of backing glass, or use single bits of glass overlapping each other.  When these are heated to high temperatures in the kiln, the layers melt and fuse into each other. The piece is then put into the kiln overnight (or longer) and when opened up the glass is now a rounded edged, finished looking piece. Frequently delightful!

Fused glass pieces can be incorporated into a stained glass panel.
